WATER ADDITIVES
"WATER CRYSTALS":
PURE SODIUM THIOSULFATE
DECHLORINATOR TABLETS
$5 CAD for 10 grams
FREE DELIVERY IN CANADA
(Maximum 4 portions per order)
As the active ingredient in most commercial water conditioners, pure Sodium thiosulfate crystals are all you need to remove chlorine and heavy metals from your tap water.
Some amphibians can have adverse reactions to slime coat stimulants and other additives in some other water conditioners. These water crystals are a great alternative.
DIRECTIONS:
Use one crystal per 5 gallons with the tablet dissolved and mixed into a bit of warm water before adding to the water bucket.
You can also make your own liquid dechlorinator by mixing 10 grams with 375 ML (about 1.5 cups) of water. Use 2 drops of the finished solution per gallon of tap water to dechlorinate and bind heavy metals.
We also sell chemical safe mixing bottles (including free LDPE dosing droppers) for $8 CAD each, which are perfect for mixing and storing your DIY water conditioner.
---
WARNING:
This product does not remove ammonia. If your tap water contains chloramines in addition to chlorine, you’ll need something to temporarily detoxify ammonia, until your filter bacteria can consume it.

MINERAL SUPPLEMENTS
FOR HARD WATER SPECIES
(Newts, Axolotls, Crayfish, Neocaridina shrimps,
Snails, Turtles, Goldfish, African Cichlids etc.)
"GEORGE'S SOLUTION"
$8 CAD per portion
(Treats about 40 gallons of very soft water).
Hard water animals lack natural immunity to the bacteria and fungus which thrive in soft, low mineral water.
Adding these minerals to their water helps to recreate the mineral rich water in their natural habitat, and that means healthier pets, and better hatch rates for embryos.
NaCl (Sodium chloride) - 1
MgSO4.7H2O (Magnesium sulfate) - 0.1
NaHCO3 (Sodium bicarbonate) - 0.1
---
DIRECTIONS:
Minerals should be dissolved and mixed well into warm water before adding to the water bucket along with water conditioner when doing partial water changes.
Add 1 teaspoon (5 ML) per gallon to make very soft water suitable for newts, axolotls and other hard water species.
---
WARNING:
Do not add powdered mineral supplements directly to the aquarium. Sudden changes in water parameters can potentially shock your filter bacteria and leak to ammonia spikes. Always make gradual changes when possible.
(FREE DELIVERY IN CANADA! Limit 3 per order)

NATURAL ADDITIVES
CUTTLEBONE:
An easy and all natural and way of providing invertebrates like shrimps, snails and crayfish with the minerals they need to develop their exoskeletons. Just put the cuttlebone directly into the tank, and let it sink on its own, or boil first if desired.
$5 CAD each
----
CATAPPA LEAVES:
ORGANICALLY GROWN
INDIAN ALMOND LEAVES
(Terminalia catappa)
$1 CAD each
$10 CAD for twenty leaves
(At least 6” long)
These Catappa leaves have never been exposed to any sort of pesticides, so you can use them in your aquariums and terrariums with confidence that your pets will stay healthy.
Catappa leaves have antibacterial properties, and contain flavonoids which are thought to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
They also produce tannins which turn the water the colour of tea, and greatly enhance the beauty of Bettas, angels, discus and other species from blackwater habitats, and are proven to increase breeding activity and survival rates of the young.
DIRECTIONS:
Use 1 or 2 leaves per 15 gallons. Either add directly to the aquarium, or boil in a pot of water for a few minutes prior, if you want them to sink right away.
You can use activated charcoal to remove the yellowing afterwards, if you prefer clear water.
Replace when disintegrated, usually between 1 to 2 months.
